TTF held its annual hotel and tourism policy summit, Outlook
2010, on May 5 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Sydney. The conference brought
together over 250 industry leaders from across the country.
Key themes emerging from the conference this year included the
importance of cities as export service destinations, critical tourism
infrastructure and key trends in the hotel, aviation and business events
sectors.
KEYNOTE SPEAKERS INCLUDED::
• Hon
Anthony Albanese MP, Minister for Infrastructure,
Transport, Regional Development and Local Government. Mr Albanese
highlighted the federal government investment in tourism projects such as
$36 million for a new Gold Coast Stadium, $2 million for Bellerive Oval,
$12.5 to help construct the Three Capes Track in Tasmania and $13 million
towards the makeover of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney.
• Hon Kristina Keneally MP,
Premier of New South Wales. Ms Keneally announced $1 million to deliver a
comprehensive masterplan for the redevelopment of South Darling Harbour including
options for an expanded convention and exhibition facility. The
announcement was in response to the recommendations provided by the
Ministerial Taskforce, chaired by TTF's Christopher Brown. This
means that both sides of politics in NSW are effectively committed to new
Convention and Exhibition space, which is a great win for the advocacy of

• Hon Martin Ferguson AM MP,
Minister for Resources and Energy, Minister for Tourism. Mr Ferguson
discussed the actions emerging from the NLTS and the TQUAL Grants Scheme.
• Mr Michael Issenberg,
Chairman & COO, Accor Asia Pacific was interviewed by Mr Peter Barge,
Global Chairman, Jones Lang LaSalle Hotels discussing how the Australian
Hotel Sector is faring compared with the rest of Asia.
• Mr Brett Godfrey, CEO, Virgin Blue
was interviewed by Mr
Peter Harbison, Executive Chairman, Centre for Asia Pacific
Aviation providing a reflection on the aviation industry and some of the
history of Virgin Blue.
• Ms Aw Kah Peng, Chief Executive,
Singapore Tourism Board. Ms Aw brought a valuable international perspective
to the conference providing an overview of the role of the Singapore
Tourism Board including infrastructure investment as well as marketing. To

Tourism Australia provided an overview of the 'There's nothing like
Australia' global marketing campaign and outlined industry targets for tourism
growth.

Director Hotel Funds Mirvac Funds Management; Mr Craig Collins,
Managing Director Australasia, Jones Lang LaSalle Hotels; Mr Garry Crockett,
National Chairman HMAA; Mr
Matthew Eady, CEO Tourism Asset Holdings Limited (TAHL); Mr Tony Sims,
Partner PPB Corporate Advisory discussed investment trends and performance
in Australia's accommodation sector.
• Business Events Panel including Prof Jeremy Chapman OAM,
Global President, The Transplantation Society; Mr Shannon Sweeny,
Editor, CEI Asia; and
Mr Ray Stone, Senior Advisor, Accor Asia Pacific discussed
critical events infrastructure and elements that combine to make a city a
competitive events destination.
• Aviation Panel including Mr Dennis Chant, Managing Director
Queensland Airports; Mr
Steve Limbrick, Executive Manager Australia Sales, Qantas
Limited; Mr Stephen
Pearse, Vice President, Australia Emirates and Mr Doug Robinson,
Qantas Account Director, IBM discussed trends in the Australian aviation
sector.
A TTF Life Membership Award was presented to Peter Barge,
Global Chairman, Jones Lang LaSalle Hotels, for his long term commitment to
the industry and support of TTF.
