LUNAR NEW YEAR BRINGS HOME THE BACON IN 2019

Tourism &Transport Forum (TTF) Chief Executive Margy Osmond has congratulated the Morrison Government today following the announcement of the injection of 11 million dollars into the approved destination scheme ADS.

Speaking about the announcement made by federal Tourism Minister Simon Birmingham, Ms. Osmond said that the 2019 Lunar New Year celebrations have well and truly kicked off here in Australia and promise to be bigger and better than ever.

“In 2018 Chinese visitors leapfrogged New Zealand visitors to Australia for the first time and now total 1.3 million visitors annually in September.

“Chinese visitors are far and away the highest spending of all nationalities visiting Australia.

“Lunar New Year is the perfect opportunity to celebrate the terrific contribution Chinese visitors make to our booming visitor economy.

“Every day around the country locals and visitors can experience amazing sounds and sights and smells of these celebrations,” Margy Osmond said.

“From Darwin to Brisbane, Sydney to Melbourne and Perth, the annual event brings a special buzz and atmosphere to our cities in February.

“This celebration started out as a small community-led event 22 years ago to one of the largest celebration of such kind in the world outside Asia.

“I strongly encourage everyone to get out into their own communities and celebrate all that Luna New Year has to offer.”
