Tourism must be at the heart of re-elected Hodgman government

The Tourism & Transport Forum Australia (TTF) has congratulated Premier Will Hodgman and the Tasmanian Liberals on yesterday’s election win, and is urging the re-elected Government to immediately begin rolling out its promised investment in growing the State’s visitor economy.

“It was very encouraging that in a State more dependent upon a strong visitor economy than any other, the Tasmanian Liberals took into the election a range of tourism policies that will grow the sector,” TTF Chief Executive Margy Osmond said.

“However, it is absolutely vital that the Hodgman Liberal Government wastes no time in harnessing the potential of the tourism sector to generate the jobs and drive the economy of the future.

“The range of tourism and transport policies announced by the Liberals, including $72 million to improve key tourism roads and $16 million to create a new Event Attraction Fund, as well as its commitment to see a 50 per cent increase in visitor spend and 50,000 tourism related jobs by 2022 are very a welcome start.

“TTF looks forward to working closely with Premier Hodgman and his Government to ensure that the Tasmanian visitor economy can reach its full potential.”
