OPEN SESAME! QUEENSLAND TO OPEN TO ALL OF NSW ON 1 DECEMBER

TTF Australia CEO Margy Osmond today praised Queensland’s sensible decision to open the state border between Queensland and all of NSW from Tuesday 1 December which importantly will now include the entirety of Sydney.

“Our national tourism, transport and aviation sectors are rejoicing at this decision to ‘Open Sesame’ which will help to reboot domestic travel in time for the critical Christmas and summer travel period,” Margy Osmond said today.

“This decision reflects managing the risk rather than the emergency of this virus and ensuring the safety of the community while also preventing any further lost tourism jobs or business closures in Queensland and beyond.

“Research by Stafford Strategy for TTF revealed the industry was still losing almost $8 billion per month in national spend from almost no international and limited domestic visitation which has resulted in some 470,000 jobs being lost.

“We also look forward to hearing further details of an announcement from the Queensland Government slated for tomorrow about Queensland opening to Victoria, subject to no new cases of community transmission in Victoria.

“We also encourage the Queensland Government to consider bringing forward opening to South Australia, with that decision remaining slated for the end of the month. Two-way travel between SA and QLD should also be considered as a matter of priority.”
