Sydney Easter Show a magnet for Asian visitors

The Sydney Royal Easter Show is proving to be a real hit with visitors from Asia with more than 20,000 international tickets sold this year. These figures show major events continue to be a significant trigger for travel and have strong appeal with our key markets in Asia.

Margy Osmond, Chief Executive of peak national industry body Tourism & Transport Forum (TTF) said “The Sydney Royal Easter Show is an iconic Australian event and one of the most popular attractions on Sydney’s events calendar.

“We know major events like the Sydney Royal Easter Show appeal to visitors. Research conducted by TTF earlier in the year showed one in three Australians plan to travel overnight to attend a major event. The Easter Show, with all it has to offer, is an obvious choice.

“Importantly, the strong overseas ticket sales shows that major events are an international draw card. The Royal Sydney Easter Show may well have been the trigger for a visit to Australia but the benefit will be spread across a number of sectors – to accommodation, restaurants, entertainment, shopping and transport.

“The benefit also extends to regional areas. The show brings all the things that are great about rural Australia to the city. For overseas visitors it provides a great snapshot of all that rural and regional Australia has to offer. It’s a great promotional tool.

“From the wood chopping to the produce displays, to the livestock competitions and craft displays there really is something for everyone at the Royal Easter Show.

“Major events like this help position Sydney and Australia as a unique destination with an extraordinary range of authentic activities, attractions and events for visitors from interstate and overseas.”
