FLIGHTS FROM $79 & HOTEL DEALS DELIVER LIFELINE FOR CAIRNS TOURISM OPERATORS

The tourism sector has hailed a new support package of discounted flights and accommodation as a “vital lifeline” for Far North Queensland tourism operators, impacted by Tropical Cyclone Jasper and flooding.

Tourism & Transport Forum (TTF) Australia CEO Margy Osmond welcomed the announcement from the Queensland Government to help entice visitors to Cairns, as part of a $5 million recovery package, jointly funded by the Commonwealth.

“This is exactly what tourism operators in Far North Queensland need, after a devastating Christmas and New Year period, with close to $300 millions in bookings cancelled since early December,” Ms Osmond said.

She urged all Australians to show their support for the local community and book a discounted Qantas or Jetstar flight now available to Cairns from around Australia, starting at just $79.

“Lock in a last-minute trip up north before the summer school holidays end. Cairns is one of the most spectacular destinations in the world and this way, you can enjoy a holiday without breaking the bank,” she said.

Ms Osmond also welcomed the discounted accommodation packages, which will be available in coming weeks through Qantas Hotels and Holidays, My Queensland and Luxury Escapes.

“Rest assured – the region is open for business! Tourism operators are ready and keen to welcome guests from across Australia, for an incredible holiday, perhaps relaxing by the pool, snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef, exploring the rainforest or wining and dining,” she said.

She remained hopeful more airlines and travel industry partners could follow in offering discounted packages to support local operators, with discussions continuing with the Queensland Government.
