“Sydney is set to shine after winning the rights to host international WorldPride in 2023, and  NSW’s tourism industry is celebrating the major win,” said TTF Chief Executive Margy Osmond today.

“What an amazing event to secure for Sydney and coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the first Australian Gay Pride week, Sydney is set to be brimming with visitors and participants alike,” Ms Osmond said.

Sydney has been passed the torch from New York City which in 2019 saw an estimated four million people come together to celebrate the event and walk in annual NYC Pride March 2019.

Sydney has become the first city in the southern hemisphere to ever host the major international LGBTQI event and organisers are expecting the event to attract more than one million visitors to the Harbour city.

The city’s win was announced in Athens at an annual general meeting for InterPride, the international association of pride organisations, on Sunday night (AEDT).
